I sorta have the same feeling, Miss B. It doesn't seem to me that it should be nearly forty years since I first heard his music!! (When I was in jr. high)
I first learned of Gordon Lightfoot when I was working in England in the early 60's. He had his own variety show where he was dressed up like Roy Rogers and sang popular western music like "Give me a home where the buffalo roam...." while surrounded by dancing "cowgirls" in mini skirts.
I heard of GL when I was younger and thought it was a funny name... but I admire all guitar players that can sing and play guitar at the same time. I thought he was a comic with that name at first.
that's unbelievable he should be that old!

OMG--Barry, the visual of that is just WRONG somehow. Glad he IS his folk rock self after such a start--
